KOTO Saigon

14 Oct

Remember my post about KOTO in Hanoi? Well, I finally tried their location in Saigon, and this time I had dinner.

The place is a bit hidden at the bottom of an alley, and it is quite modern. It looks like a big modern house you would like to live in.

We had some nice juices to start with. One of my friends tried the mixed juice (you choose yourself among a list of fruits) with ginger, it was delicious!

I had a passion fruit juice. The mixed juice cost 50 000 dongs (less than 2€) and the passion fruit juice cost 40 000 dongs (1,5€).

Then, because we were with three people who had just arrived in Vietnam, we decided to take some springrolls to share with mango, beef and fresh vegetables to make them try. It was quite good!

Then, we all decided to take some vegetarians arancini (it is an Italian stuffed ball of rice). We all thought that because we were lacking some veggies, taking this would be quite good (although we completely forgot that we would still eat rice, as usual).
They were good too, served with a tomato sauce. Each one cost 110 000 dongs (4,15€).

Finally, most of us took a dessert. One of my friends took the creme caramel (banh flan), which seemed to be made nicely. It cost 45 000 dongs (1,7€).

I had the chocolate tartlet, which was not a success, the dough was a bit old a too soft, the chocolate was not really breathtaking. It cost 75 000 dongs (less than 3€).

Then, another friend had a chocolate mud cake, which looked ok. It cost also 75 000 dongs.

Here is the bill!

Mark: 3/5
Nice place and nice food, and it is made for helping young people! Quite disappointed about the desserts (even more after seeing the menu on their website with the peanut/chocolate dessert).

Cakewalk, Saigon

11 Oct

Here is the last cupcake shop I wanted to try in Saigon. I had a breakfast day, although they don’t quite have a breakfast menu. With a friend of mine, we had this evening+breakfast+lunch full of the restaurants we wanted to try, so we were really full.

L’Usine, Saigon

4 Oct

One of the coolest places in Saigon. It took me 4 months to go there (I knew it existed, but always had other things to do).
It’s a kind of cafe/restaurant mixed with a clothes and accessories shop.

The Elbow room, Saigon

1 Oct

It’s been a while I haven’t talked about Western restaurants in Saigon.
I’m now finally focusing on August, so I’ll soon be over with my posts about Vietnam.

The Elbow Room is not in the most popular area of Saigon. It is still in the District 1, but it is located in a small street.

Black Cat, Saigon

6 Sep

Today I’ll share with you a review of the Black Cat, a Western food restaurant (with a bit of Vietnamese food too) in Saigon. I have been there at least two months ago but constantly declined the posting date because I thought I had much more serious stuffs to post before.

The restaurant is quite famous for offering the Big Cheese, which is a gigantic burger of 1,5 kilos with 500gr of meat, one onion, three tomatoes, six slices of bacon (which I believe is quite small compared to the three tomatoes), one pickle (meaning the big Russian style pickles) and one head of lettuce.

Fly Cupcakes, Saigon

30 Aug

Another cupcakes post. I would quite appreciate to post more about French delicacies because even if cupcakes are really cute, it’s not the most amazing dessert you can have. Unfortunately, the only way I could get some good pastries in Vietnam is to go to a really posh hotel and pay 20$, or go to Nha Trang and eat a good waffle at Romy’s Italian Ice-cream, or to accommodate with average or not good pastries from Une journée à Paris (the French bakery in Saigon), or at the supermarket.
Anyway, Fly Cupcakes is the latest cupcake shop. When I first came to Saigon, it was not yet opened and it finally opened in spring (talking about Western spring).

Warda, Saigon

29 Aug

This restaurant is one of the arabic food restaurants in Saigon.

I quite like the location of it, in a small alley starting in Mac Thi Buoi, where you can find many other restaurants that all look nice.

Nana’s Crepes, Saigon

27 Aug

This is a small shop inside the MOF Sweets & Coffee in the Crescent Mall in District 7.

MOF is providing Japanese sweets and so there they also provide some “Japanese crepes”.

In Japan you can find a lot of shops like this one with some arty-looking crepes. It’s more chic than in France, but never forget we invented it.

Temple Club, Saigon

26 Aug

Sorry for those of you who received an email with a new recipe but cannot find it on the blog, I am currently working on my future posts for when I’ll be travelling in Italy (this way you will still have something to read, and I will only have to click on “Publish”) and instead of clicking on “Save Draft” I just clicked on “Publish”. So this recipe will be kept secret until…September, 14th!
Anyway, in the meantime I have still many things to post (my agenda is full until October, 10th), so here is my review of a famous posh Vietnamese restaurant called Temple Club in Saigon.
