Ice-cream in Saigon: Chez Fanny

4 Jun

Today, I will tell you more about the most famous ice-cream shop in Saigon: Chez Fanny.

Me and my friends went to the one in the Vincom Center (where you can find a lot of restaurants). When arriving, we saw the shop of Bud’s of San Francisco, which looked, to be honest, disgusting.

As I am French with Italian roots (the Italian market for ice-creams is the most specific in Europe, because Italians buy more artisanal ice-creams than ice-creams in the supermarket, contrarily to the rest of the Europeans), I have always been used to eating home-made ice-creams.

The first tip to be sure if an ice-cream is good or not, is the colour of the strawberry ice-cream. Usually, when it is processed food, it will have a pale pink colour (and obviously, no taste). A real strawberry ice-cream should have the same tint as the pink iceècream you see above. Well, I can tell you that Bud’s of San Francisco didn’t have the same colour at all. The only ice-cream that looked natural was the green tea one.

Look at the colour of the strawberry ice-cream here:

So we headed to Chez Fanny, where the ice-creams looked way better. I took a raspberry and a green tea scoops (above). They were great and tasty. Each scoop costs between 22 000 to 35 000 dongs, depending on the flavour.

My friend took a vanilla and macadamia.

And my other friend took two caramel and one vanilla with a caramel topping. Each topping is between 20 000 and 30 000 dongs.

Mark: 4/5
It is a good ice-cream shop, even though it does not equal a perfect Italian ice-cream, although I don’t think you can find a better ice-cream shop in Vietnam.

So I warmly advise you Chez Fanny. A cool stuff about Chez Fanny is also their Friday evening’s all you can eat formula. For 160 000 dongs, you can eat as much ice-cream as you want! It is only availabe on the 1st Friday of the month, in their Ton That Thiep location, from 5pm to 7pm.

There is also Baskin Robbins in Saigon, but I haven’t tried it yet, and the ice-creams look a bit chemical to me : .

There are a few locations in Saigon:

29-31 Ton That Thiep, Dist. 1, HCMC

72 Le Thanh Ton, Dist.1, HCMC

22 Pham Hong Thai St., Dist.1, HCMC

63 Xuan Thuy, Dist.2., HCMC

(they also have one in Hanoi)

I advise you to go to the Ton That Thiep or the Xuan Thuy locations, which are very cute.
